It’s the intricacies of how things work that fascinate The Insight Group® co-founder Paul Salisbury. As a kid, Paul discovered a proclivity for magic tricks. He’d practice a move for hours, refining his skill and relishing the “prestige” that entertained his friends and eventually large parties and events. Although Paul declined a career in magic and engineering, his aptitude for numbers and fine detail led him to study Finance in school. With early success as an independent financial advisor, the entrepreneurial spirit from his magician show days encouraged Paul to start The Insight Group. Today, Paul’s ability to utilize the intricacies of technology help The Insight Group stay a step ahead, anticipating clients’ needs and having their assets in place when needed. For the last 25 years, Paul’s ability to tackle business management, technology systems, client relationships (and the occasional magic trick) continues to amaze and please clients and co-workers alike.

Being a team player isn’t just a catchphrase to The Insight Group co-founder Mark Matley. A passionate athlete and former member of the U.S. Junior Men’s National Volleyball team, Mark knows what it means to work hard and rely on the skills of those around you. Mark was recruited by various university teams (an unexpected sport for a Utah native) and his skills on the court helped pay for his degree in Economics (perhaps an unexpected choice for a volleyball enthusiast). His competitive drive paid off on all fronts. Mark graduated magna cum laude, landed a job with Dean Witter in New York City, and eventually channeled his love for a challenge into a new business venture, The Insight Group. Primarily responsible for the long-term thinking behind client plans, Mark relies on his knowledge of strategy: surround yourself with a great team, polish your skills, have a plan of attack, and you’re bound to win.
Chuck Cutler
Principal

Education:
- Brigham Young University, B.S. in Business Management, Emphasis in Finance
Work History:
- Beneficial Financial Group, Chief Marketing and Distribution Officer
- The MONY Group, General Manager Salt Lake City and Denver offices
- Chuck Cutler has worked over 20 years in the financial services industry. After a successful college football career, where he earned First Team Academic All-American status in 1987 and 1988, he began his professional career with the MONY Group as an agent. He eventually accepted the top management position for the Salt Lake City and Denver offices. In 1999 Chuck joined his long-time friends Mark and Paul at the Insight Group and focused solely on his clientele. In 2002, Beneficial Financial Group recruited Chuck for his field experience, management success, and strategic skills. Despite his corporate success, Chuck missed the personal connections he made when working one-on-one with his own clients and returned to the Insight Group in 2007. Chuck is likely most recognized for his sound judgment and principle driven approach. He excels in drawing out clients’ key priorities and responding honestly, sensitively, and informatively…a unique balance.

Seeing grand, scenic vistas from remote Uintah mountain trails doesn’t happen often enough for Scott Sayre. But when it comes to his daily work, there’s no shortage of “big pictures” in his mind. As Director of Planning for The Insight Group, Scott is responsible for taking a high-level view of each client’s plan and ensuring that no facet of wealth management is incomplete. When Scott reviews a client’s plan, he analyzes the financial, legal, and tax implications and summarizes them into a format that can be readily understood. While most people have no point of comparison for their estate and wealth management documents, Scott sees them every day, so he’s attuned to potential issues, missing details, and different angles for consideration. What’s more, Scott is the firm’s go-to resource for current tax law, regulatory guidelines, and legislative matters. He understands that wealth management is a dynamic process; the sound advice from last year may take on nuances as issues evolve. So unlike some firms that offer a one-shot financial plan, The Insight Group provides yearly reviews with specialized guidance from Scott. A “finance guy” since childhood, Scott remembers getting a money bag for a birthday present–a gift he still holds onto today. (Sounds like he was able to see the big picture even then.)
Jamie Tarrant
Director of Client Services

Whether it’s during a simple phone request or an extended meeting at our offices, clients often take the natural efficiency, sleek report materials, and perfectly ordered files at The Insight Group for granted. But when it comes to those details, not one goes overlooked by Jamie Tarrant. Director of Client Services, Jamie orchestrates the entire client experience with our team–from meeting scheduling and plan presentation to ensuring that every document and signature in a portfolio is in place. A self-described “detail person,” Jamie’s definition of organization is far beyond what Webster’s (or the average human) might state. But that’s exactly what makes Jamie a crucial and valued part of The Insight Group team.

When talking about someone with Jane Rogers’ experience, many people might use the words seasoned, veteran, and accomplished. Jane rebuffs any euphemisms, proudly stating she’s “the oldest person in the firm.” Saying things as they are is just one of the qualities prospective clients appreciate in Jane Rogers. Our representative for Business Development, Jane uses her sales background to develop relationships with trusted advisors to The Insight Group. Open communications with these partnerships not only enhances our business, but opens the door to many client referrals. These individuals in turn appreciate Jane’s understanding of their perspective; like many of our clients she has worked for Fortune 100 companies as well as owned her own business. Jane is adamant about only affiliating with people and products she believes in–and her confidence in pairing the right people with The Insight Group is a trait that never gets old.

“Great assist” is a phrase Elisa Martin has been hearing for years. An avid basketball player, Elisa gets kudos from teammates on the hardwood for her unselfish play. The same holds true for her off-court moves. Working closely with Director of Planning Scott Sayre, Elisa is instrumental in preparing reports for clients and assembling required documentation.
